Spring--A Time to Reflect and Grow

It's spring and we're on the verge of spring break. Perhaps, like me, you're looking at doing some yard work, tending your garden in some way--seeing what needs dividing, what needs moved, where you need a new plant, etc. Thus, I thought this week we'd do some similar reflection with our tech "gardens." I'm not providing you with anything new to consider this week, but rather, asking you to do one of the following, then come back here and tell us what you did. And, of course, have a great spring break!

  1. Revisit some of the tools and ideas we've covered in Learn and Earn. Identify one that you have implemented and tell us how its use is playing out in your classroom.
  2. Revisit some of the tools and ideas we've covered in Learn and Earn. Identify one that you were particularly intrigued by, but haven't really had the chance yet to truly investigate or use, then spend some time doing just that. Come back here and tell us about it.
  3. Identify something tech and learning related (that you didn't learn about in Learn and Earn) that you think has had a positive effect on your work and/or student learning. Tell us about it.
  4. Identify something tech related that you think could have a positive impact on your work and student learning but that you haven't tried yet (for whatever reason). Why do you think it would be a good thing? What are the roadblocks keeping you from trying it?
So, there, you have it--choose one of the above, then get outside and tend your real garden. :)

I am SO excited to be able to work with the new google Tahoma tools! I will be turning one of my projects (an individual project where students explore and present information about a French-speaking African country) to a tech-based project. I'm interested to see if the end product will be worth the switch and to see what challenges the students have and what works really well for them. I'm also interested in figuring out how to incorporate blog features on my Tahoma google site so I can incorporate an idea I've had to have a classroom blog.

I am currently in the process of using the signup genius to get students signed up for their chapter 5 or 6 retake next week. I loved being about to just send the link in the email to parents and students through skyward. It is nice to just have them organize if for me at signup genius versus me having to go through and organize it after the students have signed up on a written form. It will make me having to print tests, make sure I have seating etc. so much easier. It is really easy for me to add students who are unable to sign up online or to delete students (I had a parent sign up for both days and then email me to clarify which one was correct and I could very easily go through and delete the mistake). I think that next year it will go even smoother since I will be using it from the start so everyone will be expecting it versus this time, when it is all new so I have to "coax" some of my students who can sign up online to do it.

I have been trying to use google more in my classroom. I haven't did the best job at it, but I am trying at least. I think I need to learn about it more and maybe take a class or two to become a master. I have liked what I have used and explored so far. I think I have just got my feet wet. I haven't used it that much or as much as I would have liked. I am excited for the training that will be getting at sometime, when we switch over to google.
I am currently trying to use signup genius to get students to sign up for the groups they will be in on the field trip here in the next few weeks. But since it is new to me it is taking longer then I would like but hopefully in the end we will use it from here on out so it will only need to be created once.

I want to explore using genius with my CTE advisory committee and choosing educational tours and presentations they do for me in class. I do need to work on reading more on this website, but I appreciate learning more about it.
